Start with Florida resources

What this site is for

After a truck collision, the paperwork can be as stressful as the event itself. This resource is built around three practical needs:

  • Finding official records. Florida law sets specific rules for crash reports, who may access them, and what they cost. The FLHSMV Florida Crash Portal is the state's official repository for crash records.
  • Organizing your documents. A private worksheet helps you keep track of what you have, what you still need, and what to bring to a consultation. Nothing you enter is submitted or stored on this site.
  • Preparing questions. A structured list of questions helps you make the most of a conversation with a qualified Florida attorney.

Key facts about Florida crash reports

These facts come directly from the 2026 Florida Statutes, F.S. 316.066 and the FLHSMV crash report page (retrieved October 27, 2026).

  • A law enforcement officer who investigates a crash involving death, personal injury, complaints of pain, a violation of s. 316.061(1) or s. 316.193, a vehicle rendered inoperable requiring a wrecker, or a commercial motor vehicle must complete a Florida Traffic Crash Report, Long Form and submit it within 10 days.
  • Crash reports may take up to 10 days to become available through the Florida Crash Portal.
  • Reports are confidential and exempt from public disclosure for 60 days, but may be made immediately available to parties involved, their legal representatives, licensed insurance agents, insurers, law enforcement, and victim services programs.
  • The fee is $10.00 per report under s. 321.23, Florida Statutes, with a limit of 10 reports per transaction and a $2.00 convenience fee per transaction.
  • Purchased reports are available online immediately and must be downloaded within 48 hours of the request.
  • Law enforcement must be notified for crashes involving injury, fatality, hit-and-run, DUI, a wrecker-required vehicle, a commercial motor vehicle, or apparent damage of at least $500.00, per s. 316.065.
  • Drivers in minor crashes below the threshold may self-report instead of relying on a law enforcement report.
  • Mail requests for more than 10 records require a letter and signed statement; processing takes 4–6 weeks.

Note on confidentiality: Unlawful disclosure of confidential crash-report information, or unlawfully obtaining it, is a third-degree felony under Florida law. Only use your own report or one you are legally entitled to access.

What this site does not do

  • It does not provide legal advice to any specific person.
  • It does not calculate deadlines, case values, or success rates.
  • It does not publish settlements, verdicts, or client reviews.
  • It is not a law firm and does not offer representation.
  • It does not claim FMCSA-specific national crash statistics; those were not independently verified from a primary source during this stage.
